Opened in February 2013 in the Montgomery County Human Services Building, Play and Learn Norristown provides convenient, on-site child care for Montgomery County employees as well as the local community. Our spacious playgrounds have separate areas for younger and older children. Indoors, you’ll find bright, cheerful classrooms for learning centers and play.
As part of our healthy living standards and alignment with the Let’s Move initiative, Play and Learn Norristown provides enrichment gym and music programs as part of the curriculum. Outside specialists in sports and music join us twice a month and always bring a smile to the children’s faces. In addition, supplemental activity and learning programs are offered to families throughout the year.
For your convenience, Play and Learn Norristown provides free diapers and wipes to infants and young toddlers and lunch to older toddlers and preschoolers. Our goal is to make your daily routine a little easier because we know how busy life can be.
Play and Learn Norristown accepts subsidized payment from Child Care Information Services (CCIS) and offers scholarship assistance through the Granny Scholarship Fund.
Our staff looks forward to providing your child with a supportive and nurturing environment and the best in quality child care and early education.
A message from Center Director, Deserie Rivers:
My name is Deserie Rivers and I am honored to be here at Play and Learn Norristown.
My qualifications include holding a certificate in Pre-K through 4th grade Education from Chestnut Hill College; and in May of 2017, I will have completed a graduate’s program in Special Education at Chestnut Hill College too. Nonetheless, what stands out the most is my passion and motivation to assist with making Play and Learn Norristown a fun place to learn, a wonderful place to work, and a trusting place to leave your children.
Overall, I love teaching young children and consequently, I want to help other teachers obtain this passion as well! My mission as an educator is to help children discover the joy of learning, and to help each child develop a strong belief in his or her own ability. I want them to do their best and to have a sense of pride in doing so. It is also of primary importance to me that children and staff appreciate and respect the diversity we all possess.
Before joining the Play and Learn team, I have taught in a Philadelphia area Pre-K Counts classroom; guided younger and older toddler’s learning experiences for approximately three years with Montgomery Early Learning Center/Early Head Start; and for much of my teaching experience, I have taught in Montgomery County Head Start classrooms – which has been approximately 13 years.
Besides teaching, I enjoy spending time with my two sons, friends and family. I love music, warm weather, dancing and mocha ice cream.
I look forward to working with you and your child(ren). If you have any questions or concerns, I am more than happy to discuss or assist you with them.
