Opened in 2003, the Play and Learn Gerstadt Center provides convenient, on-site child care for Abington Jefferson Health employees and students who receive tuition discounts and priority enrollment, as well as the local community. Our spacious playgrounds have separate areas for younger and older children and a paved surface for riding toys. Indoors you’ll find bright, cheerful classrooms for learning centers and play as well as a large activity room for rainy day indoor fun.
As part of our healthy living standards and alignment with the Let’s Move initiative, the Gerstadt Center provides enrichment gym classes to our younger children and soccer classes to our older children. In addition to fitness classes, outside experts in music (for our younger children), Spanish and theater (for our older children) join us bi-weekly throughout the school year to provide more specialized instruction in those areas. These specialists always bring a smile to children’s faces.
The Gerstadt Center offers a full-day Kindergarten licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. A small class size allows for children to spend more one on one time with the teacher and develop the appropriate skills necessary for their transition to public or private elementary school.
For your convenience, the Gerstadt Center offers a low-cost lunch program. The Play and Learn Gerstadt Center also accepts subsidized payment from Child Care Information Services (CCIS) and offers scholarship assistance through the Granny Scholarship Fund.
Our staff looks forward to providing your child with a supportive and nurturing environment and the best in quality child care and early education.
A message from the Center Director, Kasey McConnell
I have been with Play and Learn since February of 2004. During my time with Play and Learn, I have had the opportunity to work in many different roles from Assistant Teacher to Center Director. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Education.
My husband and I have two sons that currently attend Play and Learn. I believe that learning should be a fun and engaging experience that provides real life connections for all children. I look forward to working with Play and Learn Gerstadt families.
