National Library Lover’s Month

February is National Library Lover’s Month! In honor of this, we’d like to encourage you to go support your local library and/or do some book related activities with your little ones! Reading is a skill that carries us through life and there are so many ways to incorporate it into play and exploration.

Below is a brief guide to how you can celebrate National Library Lover’s Month and cultivate a love for literature within your child.

  1. Choose a book that has themes you can build activities around. This will make it easy to connect fun sensory play to literature!
  1. Read the book intentionally. Discuss characters, emotions, environments, and more by using open ended questions that encourage thought. For infants and toddlers, explain what you see! (Ex. After reading a section, elaborate saying, “I see a butterfly. I see the colors purple and blue!”)
  1. Identify the concepts in the book that can be related to activities. Think about themes like Science, Math, Art, and Literature.
  1. Design some activities!
