Fall is here, and with it comes the crisp, sweet taste of apples! There’s nothing quite like a trip to the apple orchard, but the fun doesn’t have to end there. Bringing your haul home and transforming it into delicious treats is a fantastic way to spend quality time with your preschooler, teach them about cooking, and create some yummy memories.
Getting little hands involved in the kitchen can be a messy adventure, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. From stirring to pouring (with supervision, of course!), preschoolers can help with many simple steps. So, grab your apron, your little chef, and get ready to whip up some apple-tastic delights!
Here are 5 easy and delicious apple recipes that are perfect for making with your preschooler:
1. Simple Stovetop Applesauce
Forget the store-bought stuff! Homemade applesauce is incredibly easy and tastes so much better. Your preschooler can help wash the apples, and even use a kid-safe peeler (with close supervision) or just help you put the peeled and cored apple pieces into the pot.
Ingredients:
- 4-6 medium apples (any kind works, but a mix is fun!)
- 1/4 cup water
- A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
- A tiny splash of maple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
Instructions:
- Kid’s Job: Help wash the apples under cool water.
- Adult’s Job: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.
- Kid’s Job: Carefully place the apple pieces into a medium saucepan.
- Adult’s Job: Add water and cinnamon to the pot.
- Adult’s Job: Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until apples are very soft. Stir occasionally.
- Adult’s Job: Mash with a potato masher for chunky sauce, or blend with an immersion blender for smooth sauce. Taste and add optional sweetener if desired.
- Enjoy warm or chilled!

These are a super fun, no-bake treat that lets your child get creative with decorating. They look like donuts but are made from healthy apple slices!
